Design and Implementation

A design specification is based on your operational philosophy, including alarm, redundancy and security concepts. Principal requirements will be identified and documented in a functional specification. Interfaces to third party equipment will be identified and communication needs defined. A bill of materials is defined and layout of cabinets and remote panels are developed.​

A Software Design Document will clearly detail the control functionality. ​

After the design is approved, the implementation phase starts. In it, all logic will be created as well as graphics, alarm logs and reports, A low fidelity simulation model will be developed and used to validate the code during Factory Acceptance Test. The purchasing and/or manufacturing of the equipment will be initiated simultaneously.

For Siemens PCS7 and PCS neo projects, Pigler Automation will utilize advanced engineering tools for the development and testing of the control code: Process Automation Accelerator (PAA) for the bulk engineering of the Control Module Types (CMT) based on the Siemens Advanced Process Library (APL) and Virtual commissioning tool (SIMIT) as the digital twin to mimic the field responses back to the DCS. Using SIMIT allows for a shorter and more thorough testing of the control code and HMI during FAT, which will dramatically improve the quality of the control code and HMI.
